There is no single word for "no" in Mandarin Chinese.
The single word for "no" in Japanese (iie) is seldom used because a more polite way of answering is preferred.
there are a variety of different languages spoken in China and Japan , that is why you can't name just one

Just an interesting note about the Japanese. If the question is affirmative, the answer "no" is "iié" but if the question is negative and the answer is "no" the Japanese word is "hai" which is ordinarily "yes."
You are going? No, I'm not = iié
You are not going? Yes, I am not going = hai
