Responding to legacy, the way they got 10x-40 is that our problem that we are simplifying is 5(2x-8), and what we do is use our number on the outside of the parenthesis. Like 2x multiplied by 5 is 10x and 8x5 gives us 40. so when we rewrite we get 10x-40. Hope this helped anybody who was wondering!
