Order of Play
Players chance ends after every game. The team that served first also serves third. If player A serves to player C, he/she serves all 5 serves to that person. Next, A and D change places and player C serves his next 5 serves to player B. After 5 serves, C and D then chance places and B serves to D, etc.
Service Rules
- The entire hand must be flat and horizontal with the fingers together and the thumb spread. The ball rests on the palm from where it is tossed.
- If the score reaches 20-20, the service alternates after every point until a team is ahead by 2 points.
- The ball must hit your paddle then your side of the table, then over the net to the other side of the table (in the correct service court for doubles).
- Serves which hit the center line are good.
Ways to Lose Points
- The serving player fails to make a good serve.
- The receiving player fails to make a good return.
- One of the players causes the ball not to land on the table.
- Touching the net with any body part while the ball is in play.
- Moving the playing surface while the ball is in play.
- Allowing the ball to bounce twice.
- In doubles, striking the ball out of sequence.
Let
- A served ball that touches the net or posts and goes over into the correct court.
- A ball served before the receiver is ready.
- Any interference affecting the game.
Miscellaneous
- A ball hitting the racket hand is considered to have struck the paddle. Any other body part is illegal.
- A ball that hits the top of the table is good. If the ball hits the outside edge of the table, it is not good.
