Net Riddle: logic

you have 12 candies, one is poison, you have to eat 11 candies. you have a balance scale that you can use three times.
you don't know if the poison candy is heavier or lighter then the non poison.

    Let's say its heavier. so you put 6 and 6 on each side. The on that is heavier has the poison. or vise versa. So then you take off 1 at a time. if the first time you take 1 off on both ends and you even out. that means the one on the heavier/lighter side is the poison one. or just keep going down till you find it. then eat the rest of the candles. :D

    The riddle doesn't even say for sure if the poisoned one is ANY different from the other ones in weight though. :D It's really a conundrum this way. (Sorry, bad habit of obsessing over each word formed from solving those sly language puzzles.)
