a diver dove 94 meters and rose 2 meters every minute for 8 minutes. Where is the diver in relation to the surface? The answer to me would be 94 - 16 = 78 meters. Why is this wrong?

After looking at 50 or so of these equations the problem I seem to have is the common denominator and the multiplying the divisible by the top number on each fraction. Some of these are very simple and others are very confusing. The above I understand now.

what is the easiest way to solve a square root equation without a calculator? I have looked online and found a few, but to get the lengthy decimals or irrational numbers seems awfully confusing.

how do you find the square root of any number with long division and not a calculator? I don't like calculator readings. They are not always easy to figure out, plus math principles can't be learned with a calculator.
