Homework Help: Math: Statistics: Variables

by Leo Galleguillos

In statistics, a variable is a characteristic of a person or thing that can be classified, counted, ordered, or measured. Consider the following paragraph:

Chicago police decide they need to make their streets safer. They decide to stop 15 motorists at random to check if they are drunk driving.

Question:
What's the variable?

Answer:
drunk driving

In other words, the variable is whether or not the motorist stopped was drunk driving.
