Is the SAT a Fair Test?
Reader Response

I am from a lower middle class family and I scored higher than anyone else I know with a 1470. It was by far the easiest test I ever took and, maybe I am just being close-minded, I tend to think people who complain about tests like this are just crybabies. Just because you did bad on it doesn't make it unfair. I think that anyone who reads novels outside of school on a fairly regular basis, tries hard during his/her math classes, and, at least, gets an SAT book out from the local library should do great at the SAT's. It is not a test; it is an "aptitude test". And as far as the "rich kids can afford tutors so they do better" thing goes; that is a problem inherent in our society and has nothing to do with the fairness of the SATs. The rich will always have an advantage over the poor in everything. Except, of course, in the gene pool.
