The feature article in a newspaper in generally on about the 5th-6th page, however, an insert with a page reference and picture will have been published on the front page. The feature article is not a news article, however it will be a more in depth study into a particular situation or issue which is currently affecting society. The articles are written to be of interest to a large variety of people, enlightening them about both sides of the situation, but not necessary giving a final opinion or suggestion. Generally, the piece is emotive, and it is the reader who must decide.

- generally written about an issue which is of interest to readers, stemming from a topic which has been in the news recently
- may attempt to influence or offer opinions, but generally just compelling to give an insight on a particular issue or situation
- often written around a large center pictures, which displays the emotion of the piece
- highly emotive words and expressions
- dramatic, interesting, and exciting words
- can be sensational or emotive
Construction
- generally first segment appears as a small insert on the front page with clear and concise wording/picture, written in an objective style, with a later page reference to the full feature article
- attention seeking prose
- often can be extremely long articles, especially in weekend newspapers, that can cover several pages, and can include large personal accounts of situations. Also, will have facts inserted around the article, which highlight certain points
- appeals greatly to the emotions and often uses simple words in direct speech to create the atmosphere, and heighten emotional aspects
- sometimes over written
