Homework Help: English: Writing: Creative Rough Drafts

by Leo Galleguillos

Before you begin writing a rough draft, it usually helps to plan ahead. Know what characters will be important, know how the conflict will be solved. Here are the steps that would most likely be helpful:

  1. Write a brief plot summary.
  2. Describe the setting and discuss its importance.
  3. Name your characters and identify each as being a flat or round character. In your story, make sure you use both direct and indirect characterization.
  4. Identify the theme.
  5. What is the point of view from which your story is told?
  6. Describe the use of irony in your story.
  7. Describe the use of foreshadowing in your story.
  8. Explain the conflicts that exist in the story. Identify each as internal or external.
  9. Identify the climax.
  10. How did you choose the title for your story? Does it have any special significance?
