Homework Help: English: Books, Novels & Plays: Witches

story by Roald Dahl
review by Anika Waldin

When was it written - 1983

What type of book is it - fantasy

Where is the story set - a hotel mainly in England

When is the story set - it does not describe that much at all

Main characters - grandma, head witch/grand high witch, boy telling the story (doesn't say his name).

Description of grandma - an old lady from Norway who looks after the boy who is telling the story and she likes to smoke cigars

Boy - I don't know what his name is but he is the main character. he helps his grandma in the mission of getting rid of the witches

Favourite character - Bruno Jenkins because he always had something strange happening to him. He was rather unintelligent.

The plot - the boys parents die in a car crash and he is sent to live with his grandma. she tells him all about witches. she gets sick and they are sent to live in a hotel.

Words describing the book-funny and exciting

The author described the characters very well and they felt almost real.

I enjoyed this book because the storyline is so original.

I have read amny other books by this author and highly reccomend them as you simply can't put them down.
