Story written by Louisa May Alcott
I am reading a story called "Little Woman" by Louisa May Alcott. I love the way she makes all of the March sisters so close. They stick together and hardly ever fight. The two oldest, Meg and Jo, take care of the two youngest, Beth and Amy. I think that when all of the March sisters get older, they will still help each other and watch over each other. I wish my sisters and I could be that close.
During this book, Laurie, the March's neighbor who is Jo's age, asks Jo for her hand in marriage. I couldn't believe that she turned him down because she loved him. I noticed during this book that Laurie was always hanging around Jo and hinting that he liked Jo more than a friend. After she turned him down, he felt hurt inside and very embarrassed. I am not sure it was a wise decision Jo made and I don't think she thought it was either. She was sorry she made that decision because Laurie was such a loving, bright and wealthy young man. She loved him very much but she realized she loved him as a friend and nothing more. I hope Jo will find the right man to marry.
At the end of this book Beth dies. I felt sad because she died of the remains of Scarlet Fever. The first time she got it was when she was younger. She snuck out of the house to go see if she could help save a friends baby. The baby was dieing of Scarlet Fever and he died in Beth's hands. She caught it from the baby and was very ill. Finally, the doctor said she was cured but she knew it would never go away. When she got older she was sick again. Jo thought that Beth was just lonely and needed someone to love but she was wrong. It was Scarlet Fever. That's how she died but she fought it for several months until she couldn't fight it any longer. I envy her.
This story teaches you about life growing up in the 19th Century America. It teaches you how families get disturbed when Civil War takes family members away to fight in the war just like the March father did. He was gone for a very long time. In this story, the family was held together by love and loyalty. This book shows the joys of growing up in a warm and loving family. I recommend this book to people of all ages because it is an enjoyable and touching classic.
