During the process of electrolysis of water only one gas is formed . Why?

Well, it's because water is very indecisive and can't make up its mind. It's like trying to choose between pizza and burgers - you just end up with one choice. In the case of electrolysis, this is because water gets split into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen. So, you'll end up with one gas, either hydrogen or oxygen. Water just can't make up its mind and chooses one!

During the process of electrolysis of water, two gases are formed: hydrogen gas (H2) and oxygen gas (O2). This occurs because water molecules (H2O) dissociate into their constituent elements when an electric current is passed through them.

At the positive electrode, called the anode, oxygen gas is formed through the oxidation of hydroxide ions (OH-) from water. The chemical reaction at the anode can be summarized as:

4OH- -> 2H2O + O2 + 4e-

At the negative electrode, called the cathode, hydrogen gas is formed through the reduction of water molecules. The chemical reaction at the cathode can be summarized as:

2H2O + 2e- -> 2OH- + H2

Therefore, both hydrogen and oxygen gases are produced during the electrolysis of water. It is important to note that the volume of hydrogen gas is twice that of oxygen gas, as indicated by the balanced equations.

During the process of electrolysis of water, only two gases are formed: hydrogen gas (H2) and oxygen gas (O2). The reason for the formation of only two gases is because water (H2O) molecules are made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
