Pretend that you are now a senior in high school. You have been planning a vacation for mid-winter recess

with your friends. Ten years ago, your parents put $200 in a savings account for you. It offered 6%
simple interest rate to spend on food and souvenirs. Your mom offered you a gift card at a Mobil gas
station for $200, and your dad gave you a gift card from Hertz Rental Cars for $300. Can you make it to
Myrtle Beach? How long can you stay?

Part B -- You are planning on going to Florida (about 950 miles away). How many days can you afford to rent a car, without using any of your spending money, if the cost is $35 per day plus $0.10 per mile?

If there is one, what is the formula for finding this?

Can you make it to

Myrtle Beach? Yes.
How long can you stay? That depends upon the cost of your lodging, how much you spend on food and sundries.

Part B -- You are planning on going to Florida (about 950 miles away). How many days can you afford to rent a car, without using any of your spending money, if the cost is $35 per day plus $0.10 per mile?

35x + 190 = 300
35x = 110
x = 3 days

Thanks!

You're welcome.

Where did you get 190 and 300?

950 * 2 = 1900 miles round trip. At 10 cents a mile times 1900 = $190

your dad gave you a gift card from Hertz Rental Cars for $300.

thank you

You are welcome.
