Explain how mental math can be used to estimate a 15% tip on a taxi ride that costs $23.25.

PLZ HELP! BE VERY Descriptive on how you did this! I'm Sick Today So I've Barely Have Brains To Do This Today, So HELP!!!

10% + 5% = 15%

2.3 + half of that
2.3 + 1.2
= 3.50

ps
the accurate answer is 3.49

I take 10% and 20% of the number. For this ride, that would be about $2.33 and 4.66.

Then I estimate what is about half way between those two numbers. It looks like about $3.50 would be about 15%.

BUT DONT COPY IT WORD FOR WORD!

Still, Don't Get It......

hello! I know some people are having trouble with this question so here4s what I did:

(don't copy word for word)

I did 15% x 23.25 = 3.4875 because
part = percent x whole
In this case, the "part" is the tip, the percent is 15% or 0.15, and the whole is 23.25.
if you're talking about money like in this example you could(probably) round 3.4875 to $3.48

also some help with other problems:
percent = part(is) ÷ whole(of) x 100
part(is) = percent x whole
whole(of) = part ÷ percent

the is whole and of are just to help you figure out which number is which thing in the equation!

K, Got THAT, But, How Does Mental Math Solve It?

I NEED HELP AND FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been stuck on this problem for almost an hour i really need help so plz helppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

ESKKETTE is whole website is practically a cheat sheet

well Ms Sue used the fact that 15% is halfway between 10% and 20%

I used a tenth plus half of a tenth.

same difference :)
