Abby can buy an 8 pound bag dog of food for $7.40 or a 4 pound bag of the same dog food for $5.38. Which is the better buy?

My answer: I would have to say to buy an 8 pound bag of dog food.

I am confused though if they are asking what math operation to do.

Please assist me if you can.

$1.345 or $1.35 is the cost per pound for a 4 pound bag

$0.925 or $0.93 is the cost per pound for an 8 pound bag

The better buy would be the 8 pound bag.

You're right.

Thank you Mrs. Sue. I thought it might have something to do with he cost per pound.

You are welcome, Matt. :-)

Figure out the cost per pound for each size bag.

hwa6t is 2 pu f box of spaghettio costy $2.50. Phillip says tha the unoit cost is 20/5-00 + 0.80 per p[umd pk,s expain error

To determine which is the better buy, we need to calculate the unit price for each option. The unit price tells us how much one pound of dog food costs for each bag size.

For the 8 pound bag:
Unit price = Total price / Total weight = $7.40 / 8 pounds

For the 4 pound bag:
Unit price = Total price / Total weight = $5.38 / 4 pounds

To compare the unit prices, we can see which one is lower. The one with the lower unit price is the better buy, as it gives you more dog food for the same amount of money.

Now, let's calculate the unit prices:

For the 8 pound bag:
Unit price = $7.40 / 8 pounds = $0.925 per pound

For the 4 pound bag:
Unit price = $5.38 / 4 pounds = $1.345 per pound

Since the unit price of the 8 pound bag is lower ($0.925 per pound), it means you are getting more dog food for your money compared to the 4 pound bag. Therefore, the better buy is the 8 pound bag of dog food.
