why is it that a question states that a person buys a car for R122 000 and pays 10% of the cost but then the answer to it they have multiplied the amount by 0.09 which is 9%?

sorry I meant 0.9 and it's not 9% nor 10%

Instead of taking 10% off, think of what would be left after you do that

100% - 10% = 90% <-----> 1 - .10 = .90

e.g. suppose your car costs R122 000,
take 10% which is R12 200 off
R122 000 - R 12 200 = R 109 800
- now take 90% or .9 of 122 000, that would also be 109 800 , same answer!

It appears there might be an inconsistency between the question statement and the provided answer. Without further information, it's difficult to determine the exact reason for this discrepancy. However, I can explain how to calculate the answer based on given information.

If the question states that a person buys a car for R122,000 and pays 10% of the cost, the correct approach would be to multiply the cost (R122,000) by 0.10 (10%). So the amount paid should be R122,000 * 0.10 = R12,200.

If the answer provided multiplies the amount by 0.09 (9%), it seems to be incorrectly calculated or may have been based on different information. It is advisable to double-check the details and calculations to ensure accuracy.

Remember, always verify the given data and answer to ensure consistency before accepting any outcome.
