Last week Jorge ran 25 2/3 miles. This week he ran 5/6 of this amount. Did he run more this week or last week?

Now that is quite enough !

5/6 is LESS than ONE

he ran less

Hey...ok, Damon, I'm quite sorry; have a good morning!

Damon, I felt a need to make sure my answers were correct; this website provides a great opportunity for me to double check my answers whenever I am not certain about them. Again Thank you for your assistence.

he ran less

Nasser, I agree that 5/6 is less than 23 2/3; however, he ran less is not the answer to the above question. I strongly believe answer actually is he ran more last week because the question ask did he run more this week or last week.

He ran more last week

If he ran 6 miles last week
then he ran 5 miles this week

the 25 2/3 is just noise on the circuit
all that matters is the 5/6

To determine if Jorge ran more last week or this week, we need to compare the distances he ran.

First, let's calculate the distance he ran last week. Given that Jorge ran 25 2/3 miles, we convert this mixed number to an improper fraction:

25 2/3 = (3 * 25 + 2) / 3 = 77/3

So, Jorge ran 77/3 miles last week.

Next, let's calculate the distance he ran this week. It is stated that he ran 5/6 of the distance he ran last week. To find this distance, we multiply the distance ran last week by 5/6:

(77/3) * (5/6) = (385/18)

Therefore, Jorge ran (385/18) miles this week.

Now, we can compare the two distances: Jorge ran (77/3) miles last week and (385/18) miles this week.

To make a proper comparison, we need to convert these fractions to a common denominator. The least common multiple of 3 and 18 is 18. Multiply the numerator and denominator of (77/3) by 6, and the numerator and denominator of (385/18) by 1:

(77/3) * (6/6) = (462/18)

(385/18) * (1/1) = (385/18)

Now, we can compare the numerators:

462 vs 385

Since 462 is greater than 385, we can conclude that Jorge ran more miles last week than this week.
