Hi, I am writing an intext citation MLA style. My source has two authors (a husband and wife) with the same last name.

Perdu owl shows me how to make an intext citation with 2 or more authors, but it does not indicate what to do if the two authors have the SAME NAME.

(Joseph Milner and Lucy Milner are the names)

You simply use both names as if they were not the same. Follow the rules for multiple authors.

so like,

(Milner J. and Milner L., 22). or

(Milner and Milner, 22).

When two authors with the same last name are involved, it becomes necessary to distinguish between them in the in-text citation. To clarify the distinction and avoid confusion, you can include the authors' first initials in your in-text citation. Here's an example of how you can format the citation:

(J. Milner and L. Milner)

If you're including both authors' names within the parentheses, list them alphabetically by their first initials. Alternatively, if you mentioned the authors' names within the sentence itself, you can simply include the year of the publication in parentheses after the last name. Consider the following examples:

According to J. Milner and L. Milner (Year), the research findings...

The research findings (J. Milner and L. Milner Year) indicate that...

Remember, these examples only provide guidance for the in-text citation. For the full citation in your works cited page, you would still have to list the authors' full names with the necessary formatting.
