If you could drop Mt. Everest (height: 8848meters) to the bottom of an ocean trench, would its summit (top) reach the level of the ocean's abyssal plains?

Please help me with this question.

Thanks. :D

Which ocean trench?

Any type I'm guessing....although the question clearly does not state it.

Thank you so much for the resources, Ms. Sue! They helped me understand better, although I am still stuck on the question.

Compare the depth of the Abyssal plain to 8848.

Yes

To determine whether the summit of Mt. Everest would reach the level of the ocean's abyssal plains if it were dropped into an ocean trench, we need to compare their respective heights.

First, we need to understand the depth of ocean trenches and the elevation of abyssal plains. Ocean trenches are the deepest parts of the ocean and can reach depths of up to 11,000 meters. Abyssal plains, on the other hand, are relatively flat portions of the ocean floor, located at depths of around 4,000 to 6,000 meters.

Given that Mt. Everest has a height of 8,848 meters and ocean trenches can reach depths of up to 11,000 meters, it is clear that dropping Mt. Everest into an ocean trench would result in its summit being submerged below the water's surface. Therefore, its summit would not reach the level of the ocean's abyssal plains.
