I created a video on windows movie maker and have to save it in the .wmv format. So I went to save movie and added .wmv but it doesn't save it as that it saves it as mp4. is this almost the same thing?

Yes, both .wmv and .mp4 are video file formats, but they have some differences. .wmv (Windows Media Video) is a proprietary format developed by Microsoft specifically for their Windows operating system. On the other hand, .mp4 (MPEG-4) is an industry standard format that is widely supported by different devices and operating systems.

To save your video in .wmv format using Windows Movie Maker, make sure you follow these steps:

1. Open your project in Windows Movie Maker.
2. Click on the "File" tab at the top left corner of the program.
3. From the dropdown menu, select "Save movie."
4. Choose a destination folder where you want to save the video.
5. In the "Save as type" section, click on the dropdown arrow and select "Other settings."
6. A new dialog box will appear. Scroll down and select "Custom setting for this project."
7. Another dialog box will open, and you can enter a name for your video.
8. In the "File name" field, add ".wmv" at the end of the file name.
9. Click on the "Save" button to save the video in .wmv format.

If Windows Movie Maker is still saving your video as .mp4 instead of .wmv, it's possible that the program doesn't support .wmv format or it's been converted to a default format. In this case, you may need to use a different video conversion software to convert the .mp4 file to .wmv format. There are various free and paid video converters available online that can help you with this.

Remember that both .wmv and .mp4 formats are widely used and can be played on most devices and media players. However, if you specifically require your video to be in .wmv format for compatibility or specific purposes, make sure to follow the steps mentioned above or use a video converter to convert it to .wmv.
