as reported by somebody or something

======================
This is the definition of 'according to.' What is omitted between 'as' and 'reported'? What is the part of speech of 'as'?

Example As reported by our on the spot reporter earlier in the program the floodwaters continue to rise.

You could argue As( It was) reported(earlier) ... for the words omitted .

'As; is like a preposition in adding further information. I think it might be a conjunction here linking 'reported' to (something that is understood but not necessarily stated but implied )

The word 'as' in this context is functioning as a subordinating conjunction. It introduces a subordinate clause that explains the source or origin of the reported information. The clause that follows 'as' provides the context or attribution of the reported information. Typically, the omitted part between 'as' and 'reported' would be a specific person, organization, or source that is being cited or referred to. For example, if it said "as reported by John," the omitted part would be the name of the person named John.
