I have finished my assignment I and would like if someone could look it over and tell me if I'm really off on any points?

(i) John will either score 10/10 on the assignment or he will not
-Acceptable by observation

(ii) David Johnston is Canada’s head of state
-Acceptable by observation

(iii) As Sigmund Freud point out, repression is the price we pay for civilization. Therefore, all societies are repressive
-Unacceptable by problems in language- Fallacy of equivocation on the word repression.

(viii) Only American opinions have any value
-Unacceptable by language- ambiguous (assumes testimony to be an untrusworthy source)

(ix) Several extinct species exist in the rainforest
-Unacceptable by a priori (Definition of extinct)

(x) It is highly conducive to the interests of the community that each individual should enjoy a liberty perfectly unlimited of expressing his sentiments. Thus, to every man unbounded freedom of speech must always be, on the whole, advantageous to the state

Thank you so much in advanced!

iii: I disagree. The language is fine. Civilized societies, by definition, repress certain behaviors.

vi: Acceptable by testimony? Not observation? Look at any map!
vii: I don't find the language vague at all. If testimony can be considered objective, the statement is acceptable.
xi: The size of a city is observable with accurate population/census figures.

vi) + xi) Since I myself have not been to Japan and have to rely on looking it up else where wouldn't it be testimony?

vii) Could it be acceptable by observation since that it something we have seen ourselves?

vi: Okay, I see your point. You defended yourself. :)

vii: The statement does not say that the writer has observed ghosts him-herself! it says, "Many people have..." That is testimony.

Thank you for your help!

How is (ii) Acceptable by observation?

It could also be by testimony, but it is something someone would know by paying attention to news or other stuff like that..

Because David Johnston is Canada's Governor General.

Uhm, I think Nagoya is not in Kyushu Island.

You're right, so it should be unacceptable by observation. Good spot!

Or it could be Unacceptable by testimony because you have to use other sources to know that Nagoya is not in Kyushu island.
