Find the difference quotient usingF(x)-f(1)/x-1

1. f(x)=-3x+2

Given F(x) =2x

Find f(x+🔼x) -f(x)/🔼 x

well, just plug in the values:

f(x)-f(1) = (-3x+2)-(-3*1+2) = -3x+3
Now divide by x-1 and you have
(-3x+3)/(x-1) = -3(x-1)/(x-1) = -3

For the other, the same thing:

f(x+∆x)-f(x) = 2(x+∆x)-2x = 2x+2∆x-2x = 2∆x

Now divide by ∆x and you have 2∆x/∆x = 2
