My Answers:
1. A
2. B
3. B
4. D
5. A
6. D
7. D

1 - No

2 - the choices are wrong. Pioneers to Oregon were farmers. In the early 1850s, most immigrants to the San Francisco Bay area of California were after gold, but for the whole decade, mostly farmers. Timber was a huge cash incentive, too, but not until later. I'd go with fruit farmers, but it's not exactly right. Your on-line course asks for you to generalize in a way that is not accurate.

3 - No
4 - Yes
5 - Yes
6 - Yes
7 - Yes

Yes, #1 is B. You are now correct.

As for temperance, yes, you are correct that by definition "temperance" means something akin to moderation. But that's not what the "temperance" movement was about in reality. I speak from some experience. One of my great-grandmothers and her daughter, my grandmother, were directly influenced by the "temperance movement." They advocated total abstinence. And a look at the history will show that some "temperance" advocates even went so far as to go into bars and saloons and break them up with an axe. The temperance movement did lead to legal prohibition, but the two are not necessarily synonymous. I think the best answer is C.

Thank you Reed. OK. I think #1 is B. I studied this and know that the women were active in antislavery because they believed it was their duty to help society. get the right to vote, would also help women's rights later. That's why I chose "A" earlier. I guess I'm totally off track.

#3 is A? I know temperance is allowing and prohibiting is not allowing. This question is confusing to me.

What does this have to do with the question?
