Hi(-:

A newspaper editor wants to know whether people who buy the newspaper like the paper’s new format. He prints an alphabetical list of all the employee names and asks every fifth person on the list. Is the sample likely to be biased or unbiased? Explain your answer.

I know that's it's Biased but I can't fully get my answer out.

I beleive its biased because he is only asking those who works for the newspaper but every fifth person..

You're right. It's biased because the only people in the survey are newspaper employees.

Thank so much!

You're welcome.

You are correct! The sample is likely to be biased.

When the newspaper editor asks every fifth person on the list, they are inadvertently introducing a bias into the sample. This bias occurs because the sample is limited to only employees of the newspaper, and specifically, every fifth employee.

As a result, the editor is not gathering a representative sample of the general population who buy the newspaper. This method of sampling may not accurately reflect the opinions and preferences of the newspaper's readership as a whole.

To obtain an unbiased sample in this situation, the editor should consider using a different sampling technique, such as random sampling, where individuals are selected completely at random from the entire population of newspaper buyers.
