A dock worker is loading a 25 kg solid cylindrical barrel to a ship by rolling it up a 9 meter long and 1.5 meter high ramp. At the top of the ramp the dock worker stop to go around the barrel but he loses the grip and the barrel starts to roll down the ramp without slipping from its temporal resting position. What are

a) barrels total kinetic energy
b) barrels rotational kinetic energy and
c) barrels translational kinetic energy
if it has a diameter of 0.8 meter and a length of 1.2 meter?

total KE=initial PE=mgh

rotational and translational are related.

1/2 m v^2+1/2 I w^2= total KE
1/2 mr^2 (v/r)^2+ 1/2 mr^2 (v/r)^2=total KE

so first of all, note the KE translational is equal for a solid cylinder to the rotational energy, and each one has 1/2 the total KE.

Notice you don't need the diameter, or length to solve this....
