Which of the following were attempts to disfranchise African Americans? (Choose all that apply.) (2 points)

implementing literacy tests in order to vote
founding of the American Protective Agency
adding the grandfather clause to Hardwick's bill

A,B ?

Again, I don't know what the American Protective Agency is. Literary tests were, certainly, an attempt to disenfranchise

African Americans. If your textbook says the APA was about African Americans, go with it. What I find about the APA was that it was an anti-Catholic secret society, most popular in the Midwest.

Thanks Reed, i thank you for all your help i got 11/11 i took the test but can you check my other question please(:

To determine which of the given options were attempts to disfranchise African Americans, let's go through each choice individually:

A) Implementing literacy tests in order to vote: This option is correct. Literacy tests were often used as a method of disfranchising African Americans. These tests were purposely designed to be difficult and were administered selectively to African Americans to prevent them from voting.

B) Founding of the American Protective Agency: This option is incorrect. The American Protective Agency was actually established as a private detective agency to investigate and combat criminal activities such as fraud, theft, and counterfeiting. It does not relate to disfranchisement of African Americans.

C) Adding the grandfather clause to Hardwick's bill: This option is also correct. The grandfather clause was a method employed to disfranchise African Americans. It stipulated that individuals who were eligible to vote before a certain date (generally 1867 or 1868) or whose ancestors had been able to vote before that date were exempted from certain voting requirements, such as literacy tests or poll taxes. This effectively excluded many African Americans from voting since their ancestors were enslaved and denied the right to vote.

Therefore, the correct options for attempts to disfranchise African Americans are A) Implementing literacy tests in order to vote and C) Adding the grandfather clause to Hardwick's bill.
