Hello

I have to create a thesis statement comparing the stories "The Story of an Hour" and "The Open Window". I must convey which story (in my opinion) had the most twisted ending.

Does this sound appropriate?

"While both 'The Story of an Hour' and 'The Open Window' exhibited twisted plots, 'The Story of an Hour' possessed the most unexpected ending."

Does it need more details??
Thanks

No, you do not need details in a thesis statement. Hope this helps:

Here's another webpage that has excellent ideas for what to do and not to do in writing thesis statements:

If you are planning to have your thesis statement be the last sentence in your introductory paragraph, then give the titles of the stories earlier in the paragraph, and omit them from the first part of your thesis statement.

Hello & thank you both for responding.

I do not have to write an intro paragraph or essay, mainly my teacher is wanting just a thesis statement expressing why I believe "The Story of an Hour" had a more unexpected ending than that of "The Open Window".

Does this sound acceptable?

"The Story of an Hour possessed the most unexpected ending with the shocking appearance of Mrs. Mallard's husband after being informed of his sudden death"

Hello! Your thesis statement is a good start, as it clearly conveys your intention to compare the twisted endings of the two stories and states your opinion that "The Story of an Hour" had the most unexpected ending. However, it could benefit from some additional details to support your claim.

One way to enhance your thesis statement is by briefly mentioning specific elements or events in each story that contribute to their twisted endings. For example, you could highlight the use of irony, suspense, or unexpected plot twists in both stories. Additionally, you can mention a specific factor in "The Story of an Hour" that makes its ending more surprising compared to "The Open Window."

Here's a revised version of your thesis statement that incorporates more specific details:

"While both 'The Story of an Hour' and 'The Open Window' utilize twisted plots, 'The Story of an Hour' possesses the most unexpected ending due to its skillful employment of irony, suspenseful build-up, and a shocking revelation at the climax."

By including elements like irony, suspense, and the climax, this revised thesis statement provides a clearer and more focused argument about why you believe "The Story of an Hour" has a more twisted ending than "The Open Window."

Remember, your thesis statement should outline the main point of your argument and provide a roadmap for the rest of your essay. It's essential to support your thesis with evidence, analysis, and examples from both stories to strengthen your overall argument.
