I'm trying to help my son with his homework and I have been out of school for some time...the question is: The floor of the recreation room at the YMCA is triangular with a base of 20 meters and a height of 13 meters. The YMCA wants to install carpeting that costs $30 per square meter. How much will carpeting the floor of the recreation room cost?

I believe that the answer is $3,900. I calculated the Area of the triangular by multiplying the height times the base and dividing it by 2. I then multiplied the answer of 130 by the cost per square meter (30) which gave me the 3,900. Am I correct or way off of left field

You are correct!

Thank you kindly Ms. Sue! Have a wonderful Christmas!

You're very welcome, eole. I hope your holidays are wonderful, too.

You are on the right track! To calculate the cost of carpeting the floor of the recreation room, you need to find the area of the triangular floor and then multiply it by the cost per square meter. Here's the step-by-step process:

1. Find the area of the triangular floor:
- The formula for finding the area of a triangle is: Area = (base * height) / 2.
- In this case, the base is 20 meters and the height is 13 meters.
- Plugging these values into the formula, we get: Area = (20 * 13) / 2 = 260 square meters.

2. Calculate the cost of carpeting:
- The cost per square meter is $30.
- Multiply the area of the floor by the cost per square meter: Cost = 260 * 30 = $7,800.

Therefore, the cost of carpeting the floor of the recreation room at the YMCA would be $7,800, not $3,900.
