how do you estimate fractions?

I know how to estimate numbers and decimals but the questions wants us to estimate fraction sand have the answer in fraction form.
the question is : 2 1/10 divided by
1 1/5=
how would these be estimated?
without estimating I know the answer is 33/25
can you explain?
thank you

2 divided by 1 = 2

The actual answer:

(21/10) / (6/5)

(21/10) * (5/6) = 105/60 = 1 45/60 = 1 4/5

1 3/4

ok I see where I messed up on the actual work. What you did is the actual equation by it asks to estimate before solving. How do you estimate these fractions?

I estimated using the closest whole numbers -- 2 and 1.

To estimate fractions, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Convert the mixed numbers into improper fractions.
In this case, we have 2 1/10 and 1 1/5. To convert them into improper fractions, we multiply the whole number by the denominator and add the numerator.

2 1/10 = (2 * 10 + 1) / 10 = 21/10
1 1/5 = (1 * 5 + 1) / 5 = 6/5

Step 2: Estimate each fraction using compatible numbers.
To estimate fractions using compatible numbers, it's helpful to round the numerators and denominators to numbers that are easier for mental calculations. In this case, we can round 21/10 to 20/10 and 6/5 to 6/5.

Step 3: Perform the estimated division.
Now that we have the estimated fractions, we can divide them.

20/10 ÷ 6/5

To divide fractions, we multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal (invert the fraction) of the second fraction.

20/10 * 5/6 = (20 * 5) / (10 * 6) = 100/60

Step 4: Simplify the fraction.
To simplify the fraction, we can find the greatest common divisor (GCD) of the numerator and denominator, and then divide both by the GCD.

In this case, the GCD of 100 and 60 is 20.

100/60 = (100 ÷ 20) / (60 ÷ 20) = 5/3

So, the estimated answer is 5/3.

As you mentioned, the exact answer is 33/25. To get the exact answer, you would perform the division using the original fractions without rounding.
