What is GST?

I presume this is a tax, probably Goods and Services Tax in Canada. Your post isn't clear. If you have 100 to spend on an item it will cost you 100 + 10% of 100. Or you may mean that the total cost of an item, including GST, is 100.00. And you want to know the cost without GST?

Goods and Services Tax (applies to all Canada). Some provinces combine with the provincial sales tax to call it Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).

Assume $100 includes GST, then the GST portion is $100*(10/110)=$100/11.

If the GST rate is 15%, then the GST portion will be $100*(15/115).

To find the GST portion when the GST rate is 15%, you need to divide the total amount by 1 plus the GST rate as a decimal.

Here's how you can calculate it:

1. Convert the GST rate to decimal form by dividing it by 100: 15% / 100 = 0.15.
2. Add 1 to the decimal form of the GST rate: 1 + 0.15 = 1.15.
3. Divide the total amount ($100.00) by the result from step 2 to find the GST portion: $100.00 / 1.15 = $86.96 (rounded to two decimal places).

So, the GST portion of $100.00 when the GST rate is 15% is approximately $86.96.
