I find it easier to deal with integers, so my first step would be

14x - 5y = 13

4x + 11y = 41

now, to eliminate the y's, do some multiplying to get

154x - 55y = 143

20x + 55y = 205

add them together to get

174x = 348

x = 2

so, y = 3
