I am having issues with factoring. I am trying to check my work using a TI84 Plus calculator but I don't know how to plug in a problem to check its factoring. Can anyone help? for example 44y^3+55y^2-11xy how can I go about plugging that in to check my work?

To check your work using a TI-84 Plus calculator, you can use the built-in algebraic function called "expand" to simplify the expression and then compare it to the original expression. However, it's important to note that factoring and expanding are different processes. Factoring involves breaking down an expression into its factors, while expanding involves simplifying a factored expression back to its original form.

To use the "expand" function, follow these steps on your TI-84 Plus calculator:

1. Press the [Y=] button to access the equation editor.
2. Enter your original expression: 44y^3+55y^2-11xy.
3. Press the [2nd] button, then the [MATH] button (which opens the MATH menu).
4. Select option 5: "expand(" by using the corresponding number or by scrolling to it and pressing the corresponding key.
5. Enter the variable you want to expand with respect to by pressing [ALPHA] and the desired letter key (e.g., ALPHA + Y) or simply the desired letter key (e.g., X).
6. Close the parentheses by pressing the [ ) ] button.
7. Press [ENTER] to calculate the expanded form of the expression.

The calculator will display the expanded form of the expression. Now, you can compare it to your original expression to check if they match. If they are the same, it means your factoring is correct.

In the case of your example, the expanded form should be: 44y^3 + 55y^2 - 11xy.

Remember that this method checks if your factoring is correct; it does not factor the expression for you. If you want to factor an expression using your calculator, try exploring other functions or consider using specific factoring techniques instead.
