I have to write a paper on an author and then effectively persuade the audience that this author is an important and influential writer who should be included in the curriculum for a college writing course. I chose Ernest Hemingway.
This is my thesis -
Hemingway's distinctive writing style is characterized by economy and understatement, and had a significant influence on the development of 20th century fiction writing. His protagonists are typical stoical men who exhibit an ideal described as grace under fire. Many of his work are now considered classics of AMerican literature.
My question is where do I start next
I don't think you have a thesis statement yet. Your thesis statement must include factual information (which you already have) plus your position/opinion/stance. Without your position on the topic, it isn't a true thesis statement. So think of this sentence as the angle you want to take on the topic and what you intend to prove by the end of your paper. (If your statement is simply factual, then there's nothing to prove!)
This is one of the very best places I've seen online to help students write good thesis statements. It shows you sentences that aren't thesis statements and how to turn each one into real thesis statements.
Then ... follow the writing process:
Prewriting: Brainstorm, research, plan, outline, thesis statement
Writing: Write first draft by starting with section II of your outline; write the introduction after the body of the paper is written; write the conclusion last.
Polishing: Revise, concentrating first on the body of the paper, then the intro, then the concl (revision = making sure ideas are logical and sequential and support your thesis); proofread (spelling, grammar, usage, etc.)
Have you done your brainstorming (and maybe research) yet? Have you written an outline?

I have started brainstorming. How would you change the statement I have used. What would you include?
And DO NOT PLAGIARIZE!!
What do YOU THINK about Hemingway's writing style? Not what do others think ... but what do YOU think?
