Seen in that perspective, the book club appears to be singular :)

Yes, but I had an example in my lesson:

"The team is unable to agree on new uniforms."

The lesson said that the verb should be "are" because all the team members are acting individually. That's why I'm confused on the sentence I asked about.

I think it's clear that in this sentence the book club is one entity.
