Write an expression for the number of miles that Chris walked and an expression for the amount of money that Chris collected in pledges.

Chris walked 5 miles less than twice the number of miles that Lacey walked. The students will collect $18 in pledges for every mile they walked.

Chris collected $450
Chris walked 25 miles
Lacy walked 45 miles
Is this correct?

You did not give me all the information so I can not solve.

No, that is not correct. If Lacey walked 45 miles then Chris walked 90 - 5 = 85 miles so whatever the problem really is, you have it wrong.

Is " Chris collected $450" a given ?????
If so I can solve it.

C = 2 L - 5

Cpledges = 18 C = 18 (2 L - 5)

total collected = 18 (C + L)

Thanks Damon. Yes, Chris collected $450 is a given. So if Chris collected $450, he walked 25 miles, correct.

I'm having a hard time calculating the miles Lacy walked.

450 = 18 C

so
C = 25 miles yes
C = 2 L - 5
30 = 2 L
L = 15 miles

so total collected = 18(C+L) =18(40) = 720

which I assume is the next question.

How did you get 30?

C = 2 L - 5

25 = 2 L - 5

add 5 to both sides
30 = 2 L

L = 15

Thanks:)
