Show how to make one addend the next tens number. Complete the new addition sentence. My son doesn't remember how to do this and I am confused? First one is 15 + 37 = 52 so it's asking the next tens would this be 10 + 42 = 52 would it always be 10? Please explain thank you
Why are we teaching our kids this way of math???? So frustrating to see that we are actually making them stupid. Math is math... 2+2 will always be 4!! Teaching them to make the next tens is pointless. Go back to flash cards and teaching them mental math. It pains me to see kids counting with diagrams and blocks when it should all me in memory!!!
First take the largest addend which is 37. It takes 3 more ones to make 37 = 40 (37 + 3 = 40).
So subtract 3 from 15 (15-3) which give 12.
Now add 40 + 12 = 52

You make the biggest addend the next ten number. In this case, the biggest addend is 37 which we are gonna make the next ten. To do so you add three. Here, you take the 3 from 15. So you deduct 3 from 15 and add it to 37, which makes 12 + 40 = 52
