a.
Let x = amount of 10% salt solution in gallons
Since the total volume must be equal to 5,
Let 5x = amount of 25% salt solution in gallons
We'll do a salt balance here. Thus, the equation would be,
0.1x + 0.25(5x) = 0.2(5)
b.
Solving,
0.1x + 0.25(5x) = 0.2(5)
0.1x + 1.25  0.25x = 1
0.15x = 1  1.25
0.15x = 0.25
x = 1.67 gallons (10% solution)
5x = 3.33 gallons (25% solution)
Hope this helps :3
