Write an equation and show all work.

The sum of three consecutive odd numbers is 111. What is the smallest of the three numbers?

(I don't understand the question >.<)

You mean...

37+37+37 = 111

That easy??? I thought that it will be a kind of equation question???

Can I use this 3 numbers?

49+33+29=111

One example of three consecutive odd numbers is 1, 3, 5.

What do you get when you divide 111 by 3?

True.

You need three different numbers. They must be consecutive odd numbers. 37 is one of these numbers. What are the other two?

Oh I messed up...now I get it,

37+71+3=111

Right?

The three numbers need to be consecutive. That means there are only two numbers between each of the three numbers.

Remember three consecutive odd numbers are 1, 3, 5

You found one of the consecutive odd numbers. It's 37. What is 2 less than 37? What is 2 more than 37?

Do those three numbers add up to 111?

Oh I see, which means is 35+37+39=111

And the question is asking what is the smallest of the three numbers, is that the number of 35?

Yay! You've got it! :-)

Thank you so so much Ms.Sue!!! Now I completely understand, thank you :)

You're very welcome, Cassidy. I'm glad you hung in there til you figured it out. :-)
