think of 1/10 as a "unit." Then all you have to do is work with the numerators:

3-1+4 = 6

So, the answer is 6/10

But, that can be reduced to 3/5

You can think of factoring out the 1/10:

(1/10)(3-1+4) = (1/10)(6) = 6/10 = 3/5
