I'm working on a complements assignment, and I understand what they are, but I'm a little thrown off by something:

Take the sentence, "At first this Saturday had been a warm, sunny day." Saturday is the subject, had been is the verb phrase, and the complement... would it be day, or do the adjectives prior to that affect anything?
Or this one - "Vanessa, Keesha, and Tina are all forwards." Would the complement be "all" or "forwards"?

First one -- 'day'is the complement (predicate noun), and the two adjectives modify it, not the subject.

Second one, 'forwards' is the complement (predicate noun), and 'all' modifies it.
