I have to write an essay on a book I read, and I want the title of my essay to be something quoted from the book.

But how would I write the title in MLA format; I can't put it in quotes can I? because wouldn't that indicate a chapter title or an article?
If anyone could help me with this (if the question makes any sense!), I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I think it's a poor idea to use someone else's words for your title. It shows you have no imagination. You should write your own original title.

Yes, you can include a book title as the title of your essay in MLA format. According to the Modern Language Association (MLA) guidelines, book titles should be italicized or underlined in your works cited page, but they should be placed in quotation marks when used as titles within the main text of your essay.

To clarify, here's how you could format the title of your essay in MLA style:

If you're referring to the book title within the text of your essay, you should enclose it in quotation marks. For example, if you are writing an essay about the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird," your title could be:

- "Innocence and Prejudice: Exploring Themes in 'To Kill a Mockingbird'"

However, if you're including the book title on your title page or as the heading of your essay, it should be formatted differently. Here's an example of how you could write the title in italics:

- Innocence and Prejudice: Exploring Themes in To Kill a Mockingbird

Remember to follow MLA guidelines for formatting the rest of your essay, including headings, citations, and the works cited page. If in doubt, it's always a good idea to consult your instructor or refer to the MLA handbook for further clarification.
