Seats for Mathematics, Physics and Biology in a school are in the ratio 5:7:8. There is a proposal to increase these seats by 40%, 50% and 75% respectively. What will be the ratio of increased seats?

well...not sure if my answer is right but...
so the original ratio is 5:7:8
the increase is 40%,50%, and 75% respectively...
so...
5 x 0.4 = 2
7 x 0.5 = 3.5
8 x 0.75 = 6
Therefore the new ratio is:
4:7:12 (remember you cant hav decimals)
and always remember...HERP THE DERP!!

Looks like you have the ratios of the increases, but I think they are asking about the final seat totals.
That would be
5*1.4 : 6*1.5 : 7*1.75
= 7:9:12.25
= 28:36:49
