I have to write a research paper. My research paper is on Large corporations, such as Walmart and Home Depot, have been criticized for driving mom-and-pop shops out of business. Is this a valid criticism? Does the American public have some role to play? I need to narrow my topic and write a thesis statement. Could you please help me?
I'm not sure I understand your assignment.
Do you need to discuss the ethics of letting large companies drive smaller companies out of business?
Would large corporations versus small corporations be a good topic. Would this thesis statement be a good statement: Even though large corporationslike Wal-Mart are convenient to the public, they are driving the small mom-and-pop shops out of business.
Could you also help me with my introduction along with my thesis statement please.
Your thesis statement must include factual information (which you already have) plus your position/opinion/stance. Without your position on the topic, it isn't a true thesis statement. So think of this sentence as the angle you want to take on the topic and what you intend to prove by the end of your paper. (If your statement is simply factual, then there's nothing to prove!)
This is one of the very best places I've seen online to help students write good thesis statements. It shows you sentences that aren't thesis statements and how to turn each one into real thesis statements.
