when are children first developmentally ready to begin learnig science?

Practically at birth.

I watched a six-month-old who'd never seen a ball before learn about it. For 20 minutes he rolled it around the room and then chased after it and watched it roll again.

Wasn't that a science lesson about the properties of a sphere?
