if the slope of a line is 8/4, do we simplify it to 2? or does it stay at 8/4?

2 is better. One generally reduces fractions when possible.

If there are other fractions present where 8/4 makes more sense, then it'd be perfectly fine to use that form.

As a final answer, though, 2 would usually be preferred.
