CH3CH2CH2CH2CH3 is n-pentane.
CH3CH2CHCHCH3 is 2-pentene. You have a pentavalent C on C #2 from the right end. Counting from the left it is 3-pentene but counting from the right it is 2-pentene. Which end do you start counting? The one that gives the smaller numbers.
