Why is runaway child process dangerous for long running server?
It consumes processor cycles, slowing everything else.
Also, if it allocates memory, it may exhaust available memory, causing other process to bog down or die, or may cause thrashing as memory is swapped in and out.
In general, system resources are made unavailable to other processes.
