b) f(x) = (x − 1)^2 , 0 ≤ x ≤ 2

a) y = x^2 - 4x + 3

dy/dx = 2x - 4 = 0 for max/min

2x=4

x = 2

if x=2, y = 4 - 16 + 3 = -9

if x = 0, y = 3

if x = 3 , y = 9 - 12+3 = 0

the min is -9 and the max is 3
