3without dallying in the shadows
4and swim off with sure strokes aost out of sight
5They seem to become natives of that element
6the black sleek heads of seals
bouncing like half-submerged balls
7 i love people who harness themseles, an ox to a heavy cart,
8who pull like water buffalo, with massive patiencee,
9who strain in the mud and the muck to move things forward,
10who do what has to be done, again and again
11-i want to be with people who submerge
12-in a task, who go into the fields to harvest
13-and work in a row and pass the bags along,
14-who are not parlor generals and fields deserters
15-but move in a common rhythm
16-when the food must come in or the fire be put out
17-the work of the world is common as mud
18botched it smeears the hands, crumbles to dust
19-but the thing worth doing well done
20-has a shape that satifies, clean and evident
21-greek amphoras for wine or oil
22hopi vases that held corn, sre put in muesums
23-but you know they were made to be used
